UArctic Photo Competition 2021: Arctic Polarities
“Mikhail Sinitcyn's submission was the strongest in the competition with a clear theme, artistic originality and expression as well as technical implementation in balance”
My heart is with the Arctic nature and its fairytale-like clean and airy landscapes. We admire its fancy dress but often neglect its fragility. My subject matter is human-nature relationship, whether it is through contemplation or confrontation. Clean lines and symmetry in my photographs manifest the contrast of purity and anthropogenic effects of the ambiguous relationship.
These aerial photographs were taken in spring 2021 at Kätkävaara and the surroundings of Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland. Having a clear idea of the desired subject, I drove to the area and hiked in deep snow specifically to photograph this tree on a sunny spring day to get the perfect light and shadow.
